A Jutti by any other name would fit just as well
Sandy’s sells
Indian flat shoes that we typically call Jutti, but they also go by
other ethnic names from the Indian subcontinent – you may also hear these
called Mojari, Khussa and of course just plain old Indian Ballet Shoes or
simply Flats.
A little background on the origin of these different names
for the same type of shoe:
Jutta is essentially the Indian Hindi (and Punjabi) word for a shoe and Jutti the feminine
equivalent. Over time Jutti has become more synonymous with a particular type
of Indian shoe – the Punjabi
Jutti (that we sell at Sandy’s) and can be used to describe men’s and
women’s shoes of this style. The traditional men’s versions also come with
sharp extended tip curving upwards – you might even say they represent a finely
groomed mustache. Of course, as you’d expect, the women’s Juttis are more
embellished and decorated, with fancier embroidery and beading.
Mojari another
word for the Punjabi Jutti probably has origins in Mughal Empire – especially
under the Mughal Emperor Saleem Shah. You may also hear these shoes referred to
as Saleem Shahis.
Now if you are looking for Punjabi Jutti’s in Pakistan you will probably want to ask for a Khussa.
This is the name for the same style traditional footwear hailing from Pakistani
regions of Multan and Punjab.
So whether you want a Mojari
or a Khussa or just a Jutti you have found the right place! Beaded and
threaded, embroidered and embellished, in reds and greens and pinks and
peaches, there is a beautifully crafted Jutti, Mojari or Khussa out there for
everyone that’s looking for one. At Sandy’s you will find high quality, custom

shoes that come in both traditional Indian and Western inspired fusion
designs.
